Trinidad & Tobago has now ratified IMO's International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments. This means that 33 countries now have ratified the Convention, representing 26.46% of the gross tonnage of the world’s merchant shipping. For the convention to come into force, 30 countries representing 35% of the tonnage need to ratify. The convention will eventually force all ships to clean their ballast water.
